Oct 18 - International Tharu Conference kicked off in Lumbini on Saturday to come up with a solid working strategy to safeguard the rights of indigenous Tharu community residing in the Terai region.
Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam inaugurated the Conference this morning.
The three-day long conference aims to promote the ethnical, traditional, political and ritual rights of Tharu community, organiser Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha (TKS) said.
According to TKS General Secretary Raj Kumar Lekhi, the conference will issue a memorandum for the freedom of the Tharu's identification.
He also informed that it will pass a proposal which protests the 'One Madhes One Province' claim.
