Terai armed group murders civilian

A faction of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) shot dead one Uttimlal Mahato at Arnama in Siraha district Monday, according to reports.

A group of armed men with the Rajan Mukti faction of JTMM barged into Mahato's residence in the night and gunned him down.

Paras Mukti, the Siraha in-charge of the armed outfit, later called local media and said Mahato was killed for spying against their party.

The killing has come despite the ceasefire announced by 14 armed outfits operating in Terai including the Rajan Mukti faction of JTMM, during the Dashain and Tihar festivals.

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Post reports that three cadres of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha- Jwala Singh faction (JTMM-J), who were arrested a week ago, have been released on ordinary bail by the Area Police Office in Garuda of Rautahat district coming under pressure from the local representatives of ruling political parties.

The arrested JTMM-J cadres – Aslam Jabed, Shesh Ansarul and Shekh Firoj - were accused of various crimes including abduction and murder in Rautahat district. Along with them, police had also arrested three Indian nationals who were believed to be active JTMM-J members.

Locals were angry after learning that JTMM-J cadres were released under political pressure.
