MJF announces fresh protests

THT Online

KATHMANDU: Accusing the government of failure in implementing the past agreements, Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum on Thursday announced a nationwide protest from January 17 to February 3.

The protest programmes include submitting memos to the District Administration Offices of the respective districts, protest rallies, mass meetings, torch rallies and sit-in protests, among others. MJF is also organising a huge mass meeting in Sarlahi, Saptari and Kailali districts which will be addressed by senior leaders including party chairman Upendra Yadav.

The MJF protests come at a time when the main opposition UCPN-Maoist is in its fourth phase of protests. But an MJF leader said that his party was not supporting the Maoist protests but was only seeking their rights from the government by demanding it to implement the past agreements.

On Wednesday, MJF chairman Yadav had predicted the future of the incumbent government saying it was on the brink of collapse. Yadav claimed that the protests were required as the main parties in the politics were time and again defying the Madhesi issues.

MJF had even submitted a memo to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and drew the government’s attention to their demands, however, it said the government turned a deaf ear to it.
