Seven passengers died and more than 20 were injured when a bus heading to Bayalbas of Sarlahi from Kathmandu met with an accident at 14 Kilo of the Pathlaiya-Nijgadh road section on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred when the overspeeding bus (Na 4 Kha 3043) overturned by the roadside at around 4:30 p.m., Area Police Office Nijgadh said. The deceased include Chandra Kumari Karki of Chandranigahapur, Thekan Raut of Rautahat and policeman Kanhaiya Harijan of Butwal Training Center. The rest have not been identified yet.
Two persons died on the spot while four others died during treatment at Nijgadh and Birgunj, police said. More than 45 passengers were aboard the bus.
The injured, some of whom are critical, are undergoing treatment at local medical centers and at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj.
