Locals seize arms from police

SARLAHI: Locals of Madhuwangoth of this district seized weapons from Armed Police Force personnel on Saturday evening as the latter cracked down on a group that was allegedly smuggling chemical fertilisers into Nepal from India. The locals seized two machine guns, 50 bullets and a communication from the APF personnel after the latter fired in the air to disperse a mob. Locals Ram Pukar Shah and Jamindar Shah and Upendra Khatiwoda of the APF were injured in the ensuing clash. Injured Khatiwoda has been brought to district headquarters Malangawa for treatment. A police team rescued the APF personnel and took them to a police post after the situation worsened. Meanwhile, Yuba Narayan Baidhya, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the police had found the guns and the communication set. "But we are searching for two magazines loaded with bullets."
