SARLAHI: National Land Rights Forum activists today padlocked the Malangawa-based office of Commission for the Settlement of Squatters demanding that rights of the landless and women be guaranteed in the new constitution.
They had staged a demonstration in Malangawa before padlocking the office. Harjit Paswan, a rally participant, of Karmaiya accused the commission of failing to work in the interest of squatters. "We padlocked the Commission office after our repeated requests fell on deaf ears," said Paswan.
Mahendra Mahato, a squatter from Sasapur, lamented that they were yet to get even a small piece of land despite. "The new constitution should be drafted as soon as possible and a land reform policy must be included in it," demanded Gambhir Singh Pakhrin, chairperson, NLRF.
