मलंगवामा ५ दिनदेखि यातायात ठप्प

मधेसी जनअधिकार फोरमका जिल्ला अध्यक्ष अशोक यादब पक्राउ परेपछि मलंगवा नवलपुर सड्क खण्डमा पाँच दिनदेखि सार्बजनिक सवारी चलेको छैन् । लगातार यातायात अबरुद्ध हुंदा सर्बसाधारण मर्कामा परेका छन् ।

जिल्ला कृषि बिकास कार्यालयका प्रमुख नथुनी साहमाथि हातपात गरेको आरोपमा यादबलाई बिहीबार राति प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरेको थियो । उनीसंगै सर्लाही बस ब्यबसायी संघका अध्यक्ष विनोद यादबपनि पक्राउ परेका छन् ।

पक्राउको भोलीपल्ट बिहानदेखि भएको यातायात बन्द अझै खुलेको छैन् । मंगलबार बिहान चलेका दुई यात्रुबाहक बसलाई बाटोमा केही ब्यक्तिले ढुंगा हानेर सिसा फुटाइदिए । सिसा फुटाएको घट्नापछि अन्य सवारी डरले चल्न सकेका छैनन् । प्रहरी उपरीक्ष्ाक पूर्णचन्द्र जोशीले दुईचार जनाले बाटो ढुकेर ढुंगा हानेको बताए । 'ढुगा हान्ने पहिचान भएका छन,' जोशीले भने, 'ढुंगा हान्नेका अभिभाबकले क्ष्ातिपूर्ति दिने सहमति जनाइसके ।' उनले बाटोमा कुनै अबरोध नहुनेमा आश्वस्त हुन आग्रह गरे ।

लगातार बन्द जारी रहेपछि बस चल्ने ठाउँमा टाँगा रिक्साले चल्न थालेका छन् । मलंगवादेखि नवलपुर सम्मको २५ किमि बाटोमा उनीहरुले प्रति ब्यक्ति २ सय भाडा लिने गर्छन् । बसमा जम्मा ४० रुपैयाँ भाडा लाग्ने ठाउँमा बन्दका कारण सर्बसाधारणले ५ गुना महंगो तिर्नुपरेको छ ।

छोटो रुटमा टेम्पोलेपनि यात्रु ओसार्ने गरेको छ । बस चल्दा मलंगवा नवलपुर सड्कमा नदेखिने टेम्पो, टाँगा र रिक्सामा यात्रु खचाखच भरिएका हुन्छन् । मलंगवा बसपार्कमा बस नदेखिएपनि लाइनले टाँगा लागेको देखिन्छ ।

सरकारी कामका लागि सदरमुकाम मलंगवा जानुपर्ने सेवाग्राही बढी भाडा तिरेर टाँगा रिक्सामा, साइकल र पैदल हिंडेर समेत पुग्न बाध्य छन् ।

लगातार बन्द भएपछि मलंगवा नवलपुर सड्कमा टाँगा चलाउन थालेका सफिक अहमदले प्रति ब्यक्ति २ सय भाडामा यात्रु ओसार्ने गरेको बताए । यात्रुको समस्या नभएकाले दैनिक २ हजार सम्म कमाई हुने गरेको अहमदले जानकारी दिए ।

यादबद्धयलाई सार्बजनिक अपराध मुद्दामा १५ दिन म्याद थमाएर अनुसन्धानका लागि प्रहरीले हिरासतमा राखेको छ । फोरम कार्यकर्ताले उनीहरुको तत्काल रिहाईको माग गर्दै मलंगवामा जुलुस प्रदर्शन र जिल्ला प्रशासन कार्यालयमा धर्ना दिने लगायतका कार्यक्रम गर्दै आएका छन् । मुद्दा दर्ता भएकाले तत्काल मुद्दा हेर्ने अधिकारी समक्ष पेश गर्न फोरम कार्यकर्ताले दवाब दिएको प्रहरी अधिकारीले बताएका छन् ।

उता कर्मचारीहरुले भने सहकर्मीमाथी हातपात गर्नेलाई कडा कारबाही नगरे अनिश्चितकालिन सरकारी कार्यालय बन्द गर्ने चेतावनी दिएका छन् ।

Taskforce for farmers formed

The government has formed a taskforce headed by industry minister Mahendra Prasad Yadav today to solve sugarcane farmers' problems‚ especially the minimum price that sugar mills must pay to purchage sugarcane. A meeting held at Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's residence today with industry minister‚ agriculture minister‚ secretaries from ministries of industry‚ agriculture‚ finance‚ representatives from farmers and sugar-mills owners formed the taskforce to iron out the problems.

According to Keshab Prasad Mainali‚ president of Chure Bhawar National Party‚ the meeting‚ however‚ did not result in any immediate relief. "The taskforce will hold a meeting on Sunday and probably fix the price of sugarcane‚" he added.

However‚ according to Nepal Sugarcane Producer Farmers' Union (NSPF)‚ they will continue their protest programmes unless their demand is fulfilled. "We will continue demonstration and sugar mills picketing‚" said Prem Dangal‚ general secretary of All Nepal Peasants Federation.

Sugarcane farmers have been protesting for last couple of days‚ demanding appropriate price for sugarcane.


36 injured in Sarlahi road mishap

At least 36 persons have been injured in a road accident at Fuljor of Sarlahi district along the East-West Highway on Thursday morning.

They were injured when a passenger bus (Na 3 Kha 1776) en route to Birgunj from Janakpur collided with another (Na 2 Kha 5244) en route to Malangwa from Sangrampur from behind.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Lalbandi and Hariaun.

The condition of some of the injured is reported critical.

Fix the purchasing rate for sugarcane

Sugarcane farmers have threatened to take to the streets‚ if their demands are not met in a day. "We will take to the streets from Thursday‚ if the government fails to address our problem‚" said Prem Dangal‚ general secretary of All Nepal Peasants Federation a programme organised in the Reporters' Club here today.

Sugarcane farming accounts for 70‚ 000 hectors of land in seventeen districts in the Terai region‚ according to Prem Prasad Gupta‚ spokesperson of Sugarcane Producer Farmers' Committee (SPFC). "Nepali market needs 1.5 million tonne sugar a year and while sugarcane available is sufficient to produce only one million tonne‚" he said.

However‚ the government is not addressing to the problems faced by sugarcane farmers‚ choosing to import sugar‚ he added.

Despite caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's pledge to solve the problem at the earliest‚ sugarcane farmers have decided to continue their protest unless the government fixes the price of sugarcane.

The PM directed the secretaries of Ministry of Finance‚ Agriculture and Cooperatives and Ministry of Industry to create an environment of consensus with agitating sugarcane farmers‚ who have been agitating for last couple of days to put pressure on the government to fix the rate of sugarcane.

Sugarcane farmers picketed District Administration Office (DAO) in 17 districts yesterday‚ according to Nepal Sugarcane Producer Farmers' Union (NSPF).

"Last year‚ the government had fixed the rate up to Rs 570 per quintal but this year the rate is yet to be fixed‚" said Keshab Prasad Mainali‚ Constituent Assembly (CA) member and president of Chure Bhawar National Party. "Some 2 million farmers' lives are at stake due to delay in fixing the rate of sugarcane‚" he added.

Dangal said that Nepal used to have 30 million quintal sugarcane production till 2002-03 but now it has come down to 20 million quintal a year. "Had the government helped‚ we could have met the domestic demand by now‚" he said.

Issuing a joint press release today‚ All Nepal Peasants Federation‚ Chure Bhawar National Party‚ Nepal Sugarcane Producer Farmers' Union‚ Sugarcane Producer Farmers' Committee and Sugarcane Farmer Welfare Committee have demanded the government to come up with programmes to solve the problem.

They have asked the government to hold an urgent interaction with the farmers to fix the price of sugarcane‚ bring sugarcane farming and sugar mill industry under the Ministry of Agriculture and form a Sugarcane Development Board.


Squatters take to the streets

SARLAHI: National Land Rights Forum activists today padlocked the Malangawa-based office of Commission for the Settlement of Squatters demanding that rights of the landless and women be guaranteed in the new constitution. 

They had staged a demonstration in Malangawa before padlocking the office. Harjit Paswan, a rally participant, of Karmaiya accused the commission of failing to work in the interest of squatters. "We padlocked the Commission office after our repeated requests fell on deaf ears," said Paswan.

Mahendra Mahato, a squatter from Sasapur, lamented that they were yet to get even a small piece of land despite. "The new constitution should be drafted as soon as possible and a land reform policy must be included in it," demanded Gambhir Singh Pakhrin, chairperson, NLRF.

Sarlahi DDC office shut

Employees at the District Development Committee (DDC), Sarlahi, on Sunday decided to close the DDC office for an indefinite period.

The agitating employees said they will not resume work until the Local Development Officer (LDO) is posted in the office. They claimed that there was no working environment in the office due to the absence of the LDO for months. Former LDO Dilip Chapagain was transferred three months ago and the line ministry is yet to post another officer in the district.

"The office is without an LDO for about three months and nobody has been devolved the rights even to carry out the day-to-day work," said an employee, adding that they decided to close after they could not hold the pressure of service seekers.


सशस्त्र समुहद्वारा प्रहरीको हतियार खोसियो

सर्लाही, मंसिर १८ - हरकठवा इलाका प्रहरी कार्यालयबाट गस्तीमा निस्केका दुई प्रहरीलाई हतियारधारी एक समूहले आक्रमण गरी हतियार खोसेको छ । आक्रमणकारीको कुटपिटबाट एक प्रहरी गम्भीर घाइते भएका छन् ।

इलाका प्रहरी प्रमुख प्रहरी नायब निरीक्ष्ाक -सई) लवजंग चौहान र प्रहरी हवल्दार भागीलाल चौधरीलाई शुक्रबार राति ८ बजे हतियार बोेकेका २०/२५ जनाको समूहले भवानीपुर तर्फ जाँदा बाटोमापर्ने मन्दिर नजिक आक्रमण गरेको थियो । कुटपिटबाट गम्भीर घाइते भएका हवल्दार चौधरीको टाउकोमा २० टाँका लागेको छ । चौधरीलाई मराणसन्न हुनेगरी कुटपिट गरेपछि मरेको ठानेर आक्रमणकारीले छाडेका थिए । बेहोस अबस्थामा उनलाई पछि आएको मद्दत टोलीले उद्धार गरि उपचारार्थ जिल्ला अस्पताल मलंगवा लगेको थियो । अस्पतालमा उपचाररत चौधरीले कुटपिटका बेला लगाएको कपडा रगताम्मे छ ।

लुटेराले प्रहरीको एक थान चाइनीज पेस्तोल र ६ राउण्ड गोली लुटेका छन् । सई चौहान भने पेस्तोल लुटिएपछि भागेका थिए । गस्तीमा निस्केका उनीहरु मध्ये एकजनाले मात्र प्रहरीको पोषाक लगाएको एक प्रहरी अधिकारीले बताए ।

रातको समयमा बाटोछेउमा हुल बाँधेर बसेका मान्छे देखेर मोटरसाइकल रोकी सोध्दा उल्टै प्रहरी माथि आक्रमण भएको थियो । उनीहरुलाई धकेलेर मोटरसाइकल समेत लडाएपछि उक्त समूहले प्रहरीलाई कुटपिट गरी हतियार खोसेको हो । घाइते चौधरीले प्रतिकारका क्रममा सुरुमै खोसेको आक्रमणकारीको एउटा नलकटुवा पेस्तोल प्रहरीले घट्नास्थलबाट बरामद गरेको छ । कुटपिटको प्रतिकार गर्ने क्रममा चौधरीले हतियार खोसेका थिए । आक्रमणपछि भाग्ने क्रममा उक्त नलकटुवा घट्नास्थलमै छुटेको प्रहरीले जनायो ।

जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालयले शनिबार अबेर सम्म घट्नाको औपचारीक पुष्टि गरेको छैन् । एक प्रहरी अधिकारीले नाम नखोल्ने शर्तमा घट्नाको पुष्टि गर्दै आक्रमण गर्ने ब्यक्ति वा समुहको पहिचानका लागि प्रयास जारी रहेको बताए ।

आक्रमणकारीको खोजीका लागि रातीदेखिनै ब्यापक प्रहरी परिचालन गरिएको छ । प्रतिकार गर्ने क्रममा प्रहरीले पनि एक राउण्ड फायर गरेको स्रोतले बतायो । घट्नास्थलबाट आक्रमणकारीले प्रयोग गरेको मोवाइलपनि भोटिएको एक प्रहरीले जानकारी दिए ।
